Bill Gardner does it again! If you’ve been lucky enough (like me) to come across Logolounge, Bill’s other amazing series and website/community, Logo Creed is all that and more! Tons of great logos, but a much deeper dive into what makes a great logo and how to create one that really communicates what you’re trying to say. Ultimately logos are these simple marks that have to say so much with so little (not an easy thing), so knowing what visual elements (color, shape, effect…) say to a viewer is really important to being able to communicate the right message. Bill breaks all that down. It’s like the curtain has been pulled back! This book is a must have and has brought a new lens of clarity to my design! It is also filled with eye candy that inspires on its own. Bravo!AND, congratulations Mr. Gardner, I just read that the AIGA (the most respected design organization in America!!) has just chosen you as a Fellow! For those of you not familiar with this, it is among the highest of honors, if not THE highest of honors for a graphic designer today. Well deserved. : )

Logo Creed is a must-have for both the professional and the unseasoned designer alike, as well as the fledgling student designer whose interest in logo design has only just been piqued. Imagine that some design student or a fresh design graduate would use some of the misleading ideas and concepts here and hold to it as a rule, method or a bylaw; can you imagine the outcome?The funny part is that it combines facts extracted from solid resources and somehow blended with the author's twisted view of design. Imagine it this view, if someone decides to categorize clocks and finds one in a 1$ with a built in light, he decides to name it a "Clocklite", and moves on to his grandmother's house to find a dusty one and egoistically renames it as "DustHour" ... Now all vintage & antique clocks become "DustHour". (The book embeds such descriptions of logos - chapter 12)Last but not least, how in the name of hell you could accept that "A Spherical logo icon" suggests "Illusion", also "A pixelated logo" suggests "working together" and the funniest is that a blurred logo suggests "an invitation to come closer" & "deep thinking" ... Come on !!!Finally, there are a lot of advices in the book, some may work, but the most are disastrous, or even corruptible, especially to the young minds. DO NOT TAKE THIS BOOK SERIOUSLY !

I expected more excursions and sites to see. I thought there would be more description about each area. I did enjoy the maps and they seemed helpful.

This guide is short, concise and very helpful. It summarizes everything I need to know about my upcoming vacation to Jamaica!

I am a huge fan of Alexa Riley books. They have every element that makes me love reading. The alpha and over the top Lucas is truly swoon-worthy. Ava or Petal (as Lucas calls her) is just trying to make her boss proud and not fall hopelessly in love with her boss’s brother—Lucas. Unfortunately, it’s already too late. She has loved him from a far, but he doesn’t know she exists.Ava is a strong, curvy woman who is helplessly in love with a man who doesn’t know she exists. She loves her job and her boss is amazing, but something is missing from her life.Lucas is a busy businessman and he has no time for dating or a romantic life. He is content in his lonely life, but his mom is pushing for grand babies and if she sets him up with one more woman, he is gonna lose it. He gets out of another terrible blind date by promising his mother that he already has a date, but he doesn’t until he sees her...Petal—Ava. When he sees her, he knows that she’s the perfect solution to his little fib, but she is also something more and he is going to do whatever it takes to keep her in his life.Lucas and Ava are so sweet together. Lucas is an over the top, caveman, alpha when he meets Ava, he is going to do whatever is necessary to make her his. Ava is smart, kind, sweet, and headstrong. She won’t let anyone push her around, but she wants Lucas to be part of her life and she is willing to let him into her life if it means that the one piece of her that was missing can be filled.AR did it again with another great story and those epilogues...they were amazing! Some were sweet, some were sexy, but all of them were just what we (as AR readers) needed to end another great read.

There is always a compelling moment taking place in CLOSER because of the abundance of heartfelt emotions and lusty passion. When two people from very different worlds meet, the attraction between them is immediate. Neither has ever felt the desire to be with another person so strongly, and I could practically feel this great need because of the author’s descriptive way with words. Alexa Riley definitely knows how to add realism to a scene and make me want to believe.Since Ava may not have been totally qualified to work for the lingerie company where she was hired, she has done her best at all times to prove no mistake was made in choosing her. When the business has a new line coming out and needs someone different to represent the product, the brother of her boss insists Ava should be used for the photos. With Lucas Caldwell being a silent partner in the company, his wish is heeded. He also wants Ava for himself and is determined to make this goal come true, too.With a man devoted to making a particular woman his in every way, the story is highly passionate throughout. I could feel just how much Lucas wanted Ava, and I smiled because of the way in which she affected him like no other woman before her. Their reactions are genuine along with what remarks are made, and they put their hearts on the line at times. When Alexa Riley creates a romantic couple, I know sparks can fly and emotions will be overwhelming. There are several epilogues told from each of their views, and every one is very informative.

I first listened to Closer via the Read Me Romance Podcast hosted by Alexa Riley and Tessa Bailey. This podcast is so much fun. It provides readers with free and short audiobooks written by our favorite authors.I'm a huge fan of Alexa Riley's insta love and sexy Alphas. With Closer, it was hard for me to get through the narration when I first listened, so I decided to wait for the ebook version instead. I found that this e-book just didn't do it for me. Lucas was too over the top for my tastes. I loved Ava though, and the epilogues were definitely the sweet cherries on top 🍒

I got so caught up in this book that I was so surprised to find myself at the end of the story... I am like OMG!!! Lucas is quite the gentleman beneath all his protective and possessive alpha personality. But when he laid eyes on Ava, everything in his head just flew out the window and he becomes this fumbling imbecile that rubs her the wrong way. Even after all that mess, he refuses to let her out of his sights because no other woman has been able to bring out these feelings and emotions in him like Ava. While he loves what he is seeing in Ava and craving to be near her and the ability to hold on to her curves, she is a bit insecure about her figure and unsure about her capabilities to hold the interest of someone like Lucas and is just not sure about them starting anything.All of that is not stopping Lucas from pursuing her and aiming for something permanent with her.

I didn’t know anything about the podcast, before reading this book, but I have to get in on that! How have I missed listening to my favorite duo?!Even though I didn’t listen to the story, I was so glad I got to read it at least. I adored both Lucas and Ava. She is so super sweet and innocent, while he is definitely all alpha male from the moment he sees her. In the beginning, Ava is a little cautious of Lucas, but he is determined to change her mind, showing her that she is his everything.You can’t go wrong with an AR book. It’s just not possible. It’s always sugary sweet with tons of passion, and an over the top alpha who loves his woman something fierce. My favorite part of this book was the bonus epilogues. Ah, so perfect!

This is my honest and voluntary review.This updated and expanded version of Closer is exactly why I've preordered ebook copies of all of the Read Me Romance books that I've loved so far - it added so much more to the story and made Ava and Lucas' road to HEA that much more well rounded and dreamy and FUN! When I listened to the story originally, I enjoyed it but it felt like something was missing... what ever that enigmatic element was is definitely present in this version and I couldn't be happier about it! It's definitely worth the .99 cents to add it to your library and revisit their story. 3.5 out of 5 wine glasses.

This book is really great. My kids (11, 9, 7, 5) have been pouring over it and asking questions ever since it arrived. The content has a clean layout with no distractions, which kids appreciate, even if they don't understand why. I expected my kids to enjoy seeing the pictures and hoped they would eventually learn to see passed the toys and into the underlying highlights of this book. It happened sooner than I expected. We were in deep by the time we got finished looking at it the first time, with this book serving as a springboard into subjects that run deeper than toy collections. Out of all the beautiful children featured in this book the one that really stole our hearts was Chiwa (Page 94). I recommend it to anyone who's looking for an easy way to open up a dialog with kids of all ages about the economics and social realities of other countries.

This concept is simple--photographs of children from all over the world with their favorite toys, no text beyond the child's first name, age and location. But there is much to see when you study and think about the photos. My 2 yr old granddaughter is fascinated, and so is every other family member who's seen Toy Stories. Highly recommended.

Got this as a gift for a friend and couldn't help but look through it beforehand.It's adorable. The pictures are crisp and interesting.The text is very readable and captivating.Would definitely recommend!

Also being a photographer, I really enjoyed the premise of this book and it will make a great discussion piece with my son once he gets older.

The main reason why I bought the book is because I like Dan's blog.I consider my Python level to be intermediate. I have completed reading 100 pages(1/3 of the book). Although the content is decent, this feels like it is targeted more towards beginner(not an absolute beginner) than intermediate level. I am hardly learning anything new that is already not in Fluent Python (which is a big ass book in comparison but provides better understanding of the Pythonic tricks) or in Raymond Hettinger or David Beazley’s videos on YouTube.I will update the review once I finish reading the entire book.Update: I finished reading the book and I still stand by what I said earlier. If you have time and patience, go with Fluent python. Other than the new style string formatting, rest of the content is mostly covered in that.That does not mean this is not a good book. I really loved some of the chapters like generators, iterators. The examples were more simple and easy to understand. Overall, I found this book to be more of a tutorial than a reference material. Mainly because I use the excellent pymotw website for the Collections part of the book.

I really like this book. Why? I think the author and the content is very honest. By that, I mean you get what you expect when you buy this book. I have been coding for over 30 years but using Python for the past decade on and off (mostly off). I have always been amazed by students or colleagues who seem to have this uncanny ability to "master" a language like Python. I have purchased many Python books over the years but none of them really felt like the fit. This one does. I feel this book will take from up from beginning (functions, for loops, arrays, conditionals) to a more advanced programming using programming constructs beyond the basics. I also like the authors videos, blog and overall attention to detail in preparing this book and his honest marketing. I also like how this looks on the Kindle and I appreciate his recent video describing his efforts to make sure the reader has a good Kindle experience. Bottomline, for $10 (currently on sale) this is a bargain on the Kindle! Grab your copy today...

I consider myself an 'early intermediate' Pythonista, with about three years of self-taught experience in the language, bolstered by all the good resources out there online. I first ran across Dan's page/blog through a Twitter link, I think, and have really enjoyed his Python Tricks emails. Some of them aren't news to me, but there have been multiple instances where they've given me a key insight into the behavior of Python, or an idea that's helped me improve my projects.As he notes in the Introduction, this book grew out of the Python Tricks emails, and it really shows. Dan has a knack for constructing code snippets that illustrate Python concepts in very few lines, and also for writing extremely clear descriptions of why they behave as they do. Further, even though Dan has years of Python experience, it seems clear to me he hasn't lost the sense of the ways in which Python can be confusing to new learners. I've only sampled here and there from his Buffet at this point, but have already gained two new concrete pieces of knowledge: bytearrays are mutable whereas bytes are not; and all it takes to create an abstract base class is to use metaclass=ABCMeta and decorate as needed with @abstractmethod. Even though I'd looked at the Python documentation for both of these before, I never quite understood either of them. But, Dan's phrasing and presentation made them crystal clear on my first read.One additional thing I like about the book is how Dan has included bits and pieces of his philosophy on Python, programming, writing good code, etc. Some people might be turned off by the editorializing, I suppose, but I really appreciate that the book provides these sorts of "meta" perspectives.All in all, an excellent resource for someone with modest to moderate Python experience looking to round out their knowledge of some of the more subtle features/behaviors of the language.

I'm an advanced python user and have worked at several startups, Google, and Microsoft, but I still found several tips in here that were new to me, and many others that I only knew because I'd learned them from colleagues when I worked at Google. For instance, I would usually just define an __str__ method on my custom classes and be lazy and not implement __repr__. But the book points out that if you want be lazy, just define __repr__ alone, as the default behavior of __str__ will call your __repr__ function anyway. I should have known this already but somehow it's a little thing I had missed when learning python. There are lots of bits of info like this: some you'll probably already know, but you might be surprised by a couple little tricks.One outstanding feature of the book is a short recap after each section, giving simple rules of thumb to to follow. This cleared up a lot of uncertainty for me about some python best practices. I really like the book "Fluent Python" as well, but this one has more simple and practical suggestions and was a very quick read.Highly recommended!

His research spans numerical analysis, graph theory, and geophysical fluid dynamics. He has a PhD in mathematics from New York University and taught previously at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Rados Radoicic has been on the faculty of the Baruch MFE Program since 2006, teaching graduate courses on financial instruments, econometrics, and statistics, as well as pre-program courses on advanced calculus with financial applications. He has done extensive research in discrete and computational geometry, extremal combinatorics, and graph theory. He has a BS and a PhD in mathematics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Tai-Ho Wang has been on the faculty of the Baruch MFE Program since 2008, teaching graduate courses on stochastic processes and optimization methods, as well as pre-program courses in probability. I love this little book. It had been my good friend on the subway.I bought several interview books when looking for a quant job, and found out the "Green Book" and this 150FAQ are the best! They don't have much overlap. Some questions in the "Green Book" are too unusual, so I was always thinking about who would ask those questions that do not make much sense. But the questions covered in this book are very meaningful!It is not only an interview book but also a refined encyclopedia for basic quant knowledge. I always found out interesting stuff that motivated me to learn more and go deeper.I have also met some related questions in my real quant interview experience. It helped me a lot!

It fits in your pocket, so you can easily carry it with you and study it even during a crowded subway ride.After a warm-up chapter, all questions presented in the book are just stated in a long list, with no accompanying solution after each question. So there is no temptation to immediately read the answer if you get stuck. This is a very thoughtful editorial choice and it fits very well with the aim of the book to train you for interviews.Subsequent chapters provide detailed solutions to each question. Topics covered are: Calculus, Linear Algebra, Financial Instruments, C++ and Data structure, Monte Carlo and Numerical methods, Probability and Stochastic Calculus, Brain Teasers. The selection of topics fits very well with the kind of questions you will be likely to encounter. And the choice of questions for each topic is well balanced.Study this book and you will have a pretty good idea of what to expect during quant interviews.

Excellent C++ section and the brainteasers are a lot of fun. I found questions we ask on phone screens or final rounds. Also got ideas for new questions and liked the first ten questions, too. Will make you look very smart if you know these questions. The author gives clear solutions.

Great book with excellent directions, photos, maps, and lots of really interesting history of abandoned ski areas. The author did a remarkable job researching each place and it has been a thoroughly enjoyable read. We're looking forward to trying some of the trips next year!

I love reading about the history of these places. Some of them were still going when I was learning to ski. Good history, good local flavor. I haven't skiiied any of them as I'm mostly interested in the history - I may hike some in the Summer.
