This is an essential guide, containing much otherwise hard-to-obtain information about visiting the park, e.g., whether and where cellphones work there, tips on how to score a room in the busy season, etc. Get it and consult it before you go. It will make your stay a lot easier in a place about 5 million visit each year. This 2018 edition has important new material, such as changes in place names. Thus the former Curry Village is now Half-Dome Village.

Bought this book on the recommendation of others. it is the "essential" guidebook for Yosemite. You will find the book sold in the bookstores in the park but it's much wiser to get it ahead of time so you can plan your trip more carefully before you go. Yosemite Valley is an hour from the south entrance and you need to understand how to manage your time, your driving and the places you want to visit. This guidebook will do it very well for you. If you only have room for one book in your belongings, this is the one to take. I got an earlier version that was still very relevant. A must have for first time visitors to Yosemite.

This is a tiny book and I feel like they try to cover too much. The book has a little information on trails, has some very nice charts, a little information on activities (last revised 1997), a little information on history, a little information on weather, and a little information on native species but none of it is very complete. Because of it's small size they're unable to go into detail in any of the sections and as a result you're following many of the articles to other pages across the book. I was lured in by the low price of the book second hand but I feel like it was too much given the amount and quality of the information I received.

I am a native Californian and have gone to Yosemite many times. This is the best guidebook for the national park. One Amazon review wrote that it was "all over the place" but they must not know that the park is HUGE so the guidebook is categorized by south, middle and north. Besides lodging in the national park, it also lists exclusive (almost secret) lodging that is available just outside the park as well as more common places to stay for which ever direction you are driving from. The "Best Bets" tips for hikes, places to see, etc. are truly accurate and great advice. I highly recommend this book for anyone traveling to Yosemite - don't leave home without it! It also has detailed information on the wildlife and history and even little things like comparisons of the worlds tallest waterfalls and where Yosemite's fall on that list. The book is compact and easily packable, even in a backpack. (For a definitive "hikers guide" with topography of each trail, etc. then that would be another book.)

Hi All, I read this book from cover to cover and highlighted the entire time. I went with my friends Amy and Dave to Yosemite in May 2001. We had my son (3 at the time) and their two kids (2 and 8 months at the time) in tow. I wanted to be ready with information which I never really did get to give out a tour guide as I had planned(funny thing about kids, they have other ideas of what to do in the car other than hear all about Yosemite and John Muir).The book came with a sheet of updated info which I did copy into my copy of the guide. I was directed to write for a better map than is provided in the book. Well, I never received it...ever! That was my only disappointment. I would like to see the Yosemite with kids section expanded for future travelers with small kids. I recommend you get this guide!

This is the best guidebook to Yosemite I've seen. The guide is well written, easy to read and full of useful and interesting facts about visiting the park. Mr. Medley obviously knows his subject, and his insightful and humorous observations make this an enjoyable read. Not only does it include how-to information for visiting the park, but also sections on Yosemite history, geology and wildlife. If you are planning to visit Yosemite, make this your first purchase.

Jonathan Gennick is an O'Reilly & Associates editor specializing in database and programming titles. Prior to joining O'Reilly, Jonathan amassed some 17 years of programming and database management experience. I enjoyed this book. It described features of SQL Plus that I did not even know it had. I go to this book when there is something in SQL Plus that I was not sure about (setting or parm) and I am always able to find the answer.

A must have if you do any kind of queries with Oracle.

Oracle SQL Plus: The Defnitive GuideJonthan Gennick1-56592-578-5This book is great for those using the SQL Plus tool. I use SQL Plus for Oracle 8 and 9. This book covers up to 8i but I have not had any trouble using the commands in 9i. I have not tried the commands listed on 10g yet. The book is easy to use since the topics are split into reasonable chapters and the font is large enough to read with the book beside the keyboard. I also like the chapters that list commonly used items in tables. One example would be the chapter listing the user_ and all_ views. The chapter covering the SET command is one I use frequently. This book is fairly specific to the usage of SQL Plus itself and does not delve too deeply into the inner workings of the Oracle database, but it does have examples in SQL query language and PL/SQL stored procedures. If one is looking for a book on SQL itself, I recommend another title. If one needs a book on SQL Plus, get this one.

The glories of the command line. SQLPlus [I am not going to write that irritating asterix] is an acknowledgment of the reality that for many large computer programs and operating systems, a command line utility is vital. The book explains this for the specific instance of hooking to Oracle's database. It is meant as a definitive reference. Showing every command, often accompanied by example code.For an Oracle DBA, a good acquaintance with SQLPlus is probably mandatory. From the book, you can see how to quickly interrogate the database and get results in various useful paginated formats. Plus, and vitally, you can see how to build script files that can be run, where these files encode your experience in amassing customised sequences of commands specific to your needs. Exactly analogous to batch files in most operating systems, and just as useful.Along those lines, SQLPlus is conceptually not that hard. When using Oracle, it is often far more important, and harder, to design optimal tables for a given problem.

I had bought this text a few years ago to learn SQL. Little did I know then that SQL Plus is a "sand box" that contains SQL. Needless to say that I was disappointed and had to shelf this book.However, after reading an introductory book on SQL and writing lots of code, I revisited this text and found it to be quite useful.In summary, this should not be used by SQL novices. This book teaches "SQL Plus" and not SQL per se. Once, you have learnt the language, this book will come handy to1, execute sql queries (by scripting)2, format the report3, set up the development environment4, to discover the database5, and much much moreOne reason for not assigning five stars is the lack of ease when it comes to downloading the sample code and installing it on my machine.

Jonathan Gennick and co did a good job here. This "Oracle SQL Plus: The Definitive Guide" would be appreciated by most users, although that advanced SQL users who thirst for a unique guidance, having understood the elementary basics of SQL are its primary target. The medium-sized book boasts of updated and revised information whose accuracy are indisputable. Its methodology is as well, dynamic. The pattern of this book is such that tries to turn difficult issues into entertaining ones. It is worth its asking price.

Well written, plenty of examples, very easy to read and follow. As someone who is new to SQL*Plus, I appreciated that. Once I got things installed and running, it was easy to get right into iSQL*Plus (running SQL commands through a browser interface) - really cool. The chapter on Create HTML Reports was very nice as well.I found this book very helpful.

I just opened my planner and leafed through the pages and have one immediate suggestion for improvement (confused why they didn’t do this in the first place) -Put the “month ahead at a glance” planning page at the beginning of the book! I get that it was designed to dive in right away, on any day- but missing that planning page at the beginning feels awkward and disjointed.Why ask all the questions on that page (major projects, major deadlines, etc) if you’re not going to make it the first page you see when beginning. Seems to take the “planning” out of the planner.With that said- I’ll give it a try and review after my first planner is filled.

The #HighPerformance Planner, from the outside edges, measures 8 1/4” W x 11 5/8” L . It is larger than any other planner I have ever owned. It is also the thinnest planner with only 2 months per book. I imagine the reason why this is so large as there will be lots of thoughts and reflecting to be written within these eager pages. In the beginning of the book is an intro with information about how to make the best of the planner and make it work for you. Over the next few pages is a life assessment which lets you know the areas to focus and the best opportunities to grow.Over the course of the day you are asked what your top priorities are with questions to help you start and finish your day. After a week, you review to see how you performed over your week. This allows you time to reflect on the life assessment areas and focus on your life goal/dream. After a month, you review the month through answering a series of questions related you’re your life goal/dream. The “Month Head At A Glance” is next. I find this interesting to have this located at the end of the month instead of the beginning of the month. This will be a small adjustment to have at the end instead of the beginning.At the end of the book is a few pages of graph paper. This area will be useful for any notes or drawings from your life goals, desires, or just needing to write a name or idea. I have purchased the classic black, red, and yellow. The black is a classic color. The red is like a gumball red is a fun hue of red. The yellow is a bright yellow but has a slight softness to it, much like the color of butter. To me, this color evokes happiness, reminds me of sunshine, and is the color of a healthy immune system. One suggestion that I would like to see is to have this be a 3-month planner. In one of Burchard’s podcasts, #TheCharge, I believe he mentions that every 90days you should go on a mind-scape meaning to either go away on a weekend excursion, a vacation, or a staycation to help relieve stress and rejuvenate the soul. If you schedule your excursion/vacation at the end of the 3 months, then you have something to look forward to; a reward for all your hard efforts if you will.This is the reason why I would like to see this be a 3 month planner.I plan to use this journal as both as a gift and to help guide me toward my life dream, to plan for my boards for nursing. As I cannot speak towards using the planner, @BrendonBurchard ’s podcast about this planner does state that he tested it and tweaked it for 2-3years. All the testing and his hard work has to be worth checking it out for myself. So, 2019…Here I COME!

The Yellow is my Favorite! Such a happy color! I love getting up and starting my day with this bright Sunny Journal!! The format for productivity in these journals is amazing! So much so, that I bought lots of these to give as gifts to family and friends for Christmas!

Best planner ever! You need this!!! So glad I got it as a gift to myself for my birthday.

I have always had a planner, have always tracked and plotted out my day. This is an upgrade. This is a game changer. Truly worth getting. You reap what you sow and I've sowed more in the last week using this planner then I have in a long time. My brain has made a switch to purpose and intention-more dramatic than before. Love it.

My grandson just turned 3 and is really loving having stories read to him as he learns to read himself. Can you ever go wrong with Dr. Suess?? I don't think so. Dr. Suess has a great way of "speaking" to imaginations. Highly recommend all.

One of my favorite books as a child and now my children, ages 5, 5 and 8 laugh and love these books as much as I did. We always buy the hardcovers of the classic books so I will have a library when grandkids come along. I realize kindles and iPads are taking over but there's nothing like having those books and pictures in your hand when you're little.

Got this for a neighbor's boy who's turning 6. Only skimmed the 1st story but it's a really good one about a turtle (cover) & how he takes advantage of a bunch of other turtles' kindness so he can be "king of the mountain" (I paraphrased). Well, of course, they finally get fed-up & he topples down. Just like some people, dictators, rulers. Also, the price is a whole lot less than what the publisher wanted.

In a recent pretest, it was apparent only one of fifty students was familiar with this classic. Ted Geisel not only wished to teach our children how to read, but make them think about the world around them.I use Yertle in my classroom to demonstrate two types of government. I remember this story from my childhood. It is still just as great today. I wanted to pass it on to my great nephews so they could enjoy it as well. My nephew used to beg for this story every day. He is now in his 30s and I had to get a copy for his son. I am so glad it is still available for sale.

One of the best children's books of all time. I loved this as a kid and bought it in leu of upcoming baby showers. I read it to my husband and we laughed so much we decided to keep it (we don't yet have children).

I read this book to my children when they were little and now I purchased this copy for my grandchildren. When I read them the stories they asked me to re-read again and again. Then they joined me talking about the turtles and Yertle being King of the Mud. In the second story they loved and laughed about the bird's name "Lola Lee Lu" and in the third story they were telling me all about the bragging bunny. I truly love sharing this book with my grandchildren. Since it has 3 stories, you can read them one at a time and have more for later.

An absolute classic and totally relevant today. My 4yr old granddaughter loves listening to Seuss's wonderful prose and loves the art. This was my favorite as a little girl and as an adult, it is still fun to read.

I enjoyed this book thoroughly, and took my time reading it. I could "hear" Mr. King's "voice" in my head as I read this on my iPad Kindle app. I felt like I was reading something from a friend---as if he had written a personal letter to me--- to give me an understanding of what he went through to become the person he is today. I think that his directives about the "how-to's" and "don't do's" were very practical. I breathed a sigh of relief when I got the feeling that writing classes and clubs are kind of a waste of time. Just write, is what I think he was telling me, I mean, his audience. I will probably read it again. What I got from his personal, real-life-lessons is this: Read a lot. Read good stuff. Write all the time. Find a place and write. Don't share your stuff unless you share it with someone you can trust. Go with your gut. Write all the time (I said that already because he said it or inferred it frequently). Don't use the same adjective over and over. Stick to the point. Don't over-do it on the descriptions. Let your audience see the movie you see in your head, because if you write it well, they will. I am glad this wasn't a "point by point HOW TO WRITE a story or a book" book, because really, writing isn't something you can do easily from a bulleted list. Writing is something you do from your heart, and you keep doing it until it's right and good. And then when that person you trust reads your stuff and offers some criticism, you can take it for what it's worth and use it or not.

I purchased this book because the description stated that it contained all 4 books including Rage. What a disappointment to receive the book and open it to find that it includes only 3 of the 4 books... no Rage! If you are looking to complete your stephen king collection, avoid this copy! Incredibly frustrated buyer!

The main reason I bought this book was that the description said that it included the story "Rage". I was dying to read that, and the other three stories would be a bonus. Well, what a major disappointment to receive the book and find that "Rage" is not included. There are three stories, not four, and I will be returning this book due to false advertising. Very, very disappointed.

Some books I rate with 5 stars just because of my pleasure in the story. These aren't always well-written or creative, or something someone else would like. Then there are those books that are so well-crafted, not just with character development or storytelling but in the writing itself. This is one of those books. I've always given Stephen King credit as the "king of the flashback" and here he gives us some of what he does best, but he also shows again his ability to get inside the head of the character in the present. From making up lyrics to songs sung by a fictional boy band and the brand names of fictional ice cream treats, to details of a Midwestern city that make those of us living in Midwestern cities think ours is the one in the story. I wondered in the beginning of the book if King was making a game in paying homage to himself with hints he dropped to reference some of his previous best sellers, but he played this game for just a short while. There are plenty of other pop-culture references in the minds of the various characters that do well to establish their ages and backgrounds.As the story unwinds after the climactic events, my emotions surprised me. I've cried while reading books before, but not while reading the words of a bureaucratic proclamation!

I have been an on-again, off-again reader of Stephen King’s over the last decade or so (I was more loyal prior to that time) as sometimes I like his stuff and sometimes I don’t. The last one I read was the awful "Under the Dome," which was long, pointless and ultimately just silly, and I wasn’t thinking of reading anything else by him until I read a couple of reviews by Charles de Lint in a recent Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction. I trust Mr. de Lint’s tastes, so when he praised "Mr. Mercedes" and its follow-up, I figured I’d give them a try. Mr. Mercedes is the nickname given to a man who stole a car (guess what make) and plowed into a group of job seekers standing outside a building waiting for a job fair, killing 8 and wounding many others. Recently retired cop Bill Hodges has been drifting since his retirement, regretting that he didn’t catch certain bad guys, including Mr. Mercedes, but when he receives a letter purporting to be from the villain, instead of succumbing to depression as the writer intended, he begins to investigate. And, of course, the investigation just becomes more and more dangerous as he continues to delve into the mystery…. The reader knows who the culprit is from early on in the book, so the appeal is following the cat-and-mouse hunt as the suspense builds. King is as good as he ever was with respect to his characters and plotting, and he’s always great with the gross-out scenes (which here are not too many, thankfully). This turns out to be the first book in a trilogy, and I’ve already picked up the second, "Finder’s Keepers," with the third due out in mid-2016. Fast-paced popcorn reading, "Mr. Mercedes" just hits the spot; recommended!

This book has been amazing for me and my recovery! When EDA started, I understand, they used Alcoholics Anonymous big book changing the terms to eating disorder from alcoholic. What works so well with this book is it follows the principals set down in AA, but we learn balance in EDA rather than abstinence. This book literally is changing in my life. I suffer from binge eating disorder and I have not binged since I started this program! I never ever thought that I could get set free and yet I am! The book is set up much like Alcoholics Anonymous big book. People's stories in the book helped me by making me realize I am not alone in this disorder. I cannot recommend anything better if you are dealing with any type of eating disorder. It works for binge eating disorder, anorexia, bulimia, and any combination of the three. I am learning that my obsession about weight and a number on the scale is part of my disorder. I am much more than a number! No obsessing about diet and food can solve my problem. My problem is in how I think! Lori D.

So wonderful to finally have our 'own' Big Book. Love reading a well written/designed big book that has Anorexia, restricting, bulemia, etc. My only quibble- men DO HAVE EATING DISORDERS! Only 1 of the stories is written from a mans p.o.v. (much like going to a WW or OA meeting and being the ONLY MAN IN THE ROOM). Sigh.Nice to not have to change 'alchohol' to food, etc... I credit this book with saving my life. It was a wonderful relief to read about people who struggle with the same problems as I do, and how they found hope and help through following the simple 12-Step program as adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous. I can honestly say that the only criticism I could possibly find about this book is that I wish there were more stories written by atheists and agnostics.

This book not only gave me a solution for my eating disorder, but taught me step by step, a new way to live life successfully. I feel like this book speaks directly to me. It makes me laugh, cry, and everything in between. I bought 10 copies and cannot wait to tell everyone about it!

having done step work in other food related programs this big book is the best and I feel most relates to bulimia / anorexia and binge eating disorder. other oa programs don't seem to fit as well with those conditions.
