It is loaded with practical advice, detailed instructions for husbandry of these small birds, a thorough discussion of genetics as they pertain to breeding these birds, care, feeding and treatment of Bourke’s and other small exotic birds, and lots and lots of wonderful photographs of the author’s own birds. Lewis also shares sweet and interesting anecdotes from her decades of experience breeding and raising birds. I have been able to use the information in the book on a daily basis. I highly recommend it.

I have been writing to Rosie Bird (Gail) and reading her Splendid Bourke bird blog for years. Gail is extremely knowledgeable about these and similar exotic bird species. I didn't fully know what to expect so I took a chance and ordered this book anyway. It works for well for my needs. I also included a photo to help others in case this isn't what they are wanting. I agree with the other commenter about wishing this was a spiral bound book.

Just received my appointment book. It will be perfect for my individual scheduling at my booth rent salon. The columns are Monday-Sunday spanning across 2 pages. There are just over 52 weeks worth of scheduling. This would not be good for more than one stylist's schedule, but perfect for an individual.

This appointment book was just as described. Bought it for my daughter-in-law. She loves it!

Love it. The cartoons are really funny! They are appropriate for that portion of the Haggadah. The Haggadah itself is straight-forward traditional - which I still enjoy year after year; new ways to look and realize it are always welcome!

Adds fun and levity to the Seder. Everyone liked the cartoons and they spawned much discussion, which was the point of ordering something new. Like that it adheres to traditional text and service with modern language and fun for the entire family.

Very funny Haggadah. Tradiltional text.

This is the perfect Haggadah for hosting a Seder with family members at multiple levels of observance. The joke with King Solomon and "the trick question" accomplishes exactly what this host wants: Our family and guests should be asking questions, and should enjoy re-telling Maggid Pesach.

My wife and daughter are planning a trip to Ireland this spring and my daughter lives about 800 miles from us, I purchased this book for each of them to plan their itinerary. This book has many positives - great pictures, wonderful descriptions, but it does have one major flaw in my opinion. The font is about a 4, it would give that font in the never can be read "fine print" a run for its money. My wife needs a magnifying glass just to read it. Not sure how convenient it will be to pop out a magnifying glass when traveling abroad just to be able to read it. I will be purchasing a different guide for each of them and hopefully that one can be read with out the magnification.

This book became a life saver in Dublin! We were given a Dublin Map in Dublin that didn't have all the streets and side streets on it. We got so lost trying to find everything! This book we had on us and it has maps of Dublin in it. So I opened it up and it had all the streets & side streets unlike the map we got in Dublin. We were able to use it & find where we were going perfectly!

I travel a few times a year to foreign destinations and have purchased many travel guides over the past 10 years. I keep coming back to the DK books because they are succinct and illustrated. I guess I'm a visual guy and love the illustrations. It makes travel fun. This guide was a great companion when traveling the country and helped us around Dublin.

We have often travelled in France for substantial periods and I have visited Brittany, but not in any depth. I wanted to know what more there might be to see. That is exactly where DK Eyewitness Guides shine: they are packed with maps, illustrations, colour photography and even 3-D perspective renderings of selected buildings and of centre city areas. Their Brittany guide book maintains both the format and the quality of presentation that I admire. The Table of Contents and the Index are both of useful detail. In this guide, Brittany is broken into sub-regions: Ille-et-Vilaine (Rennes, Mont St-Michel, St-Malo, Dinan), Cotes D'Armor, Northern Finnisterre (Brest), Southern Finnisterre (Quimper), Morhiban (Vannes--a real 'back door' discovery if you are driving and also a sailing mecca), and Loire-Atlantique (Nantes). Within each of these sub-regions the book provides useful information and engaging pictures of many attractions that should be of interest to tourists. Travelers' Needs sections include a selected list of where to stay, where to eat, shops and markets, entertainment in Brittany and a summary of popular outdoor activities such as walking, cycling, horseback riding, birding, golfing, sailing, surfing and diving. Information in this section is very general and is built around a directory pointing to the major associations or resources that deal with those activities.We always include a relevant Dorling Kindersley guide in our pre-trip planning purchases and have never been disappointed. There has never been a trip where we didn't get a good bit of information that we actually used for self-guiding, dining or finding a range of accommodations.That said, this is not a 'pocket' sized guidebook. It is 8 1/2 by 5 inches and 296 pages. It will fit very comfortably with everything else in your day bag or pack. The guide comes with a substantial, moisture-resistant, flexible cover and sturdy binding. The outside long edges of the pages include color-coding that is indexed to sub-region and to Travellers' Needs for general quick reference. This is a book made both to consult and to keep so I would be very reluctant to take the pages apart to reduce the package to suit a particular itinerary or to carry easily the pages for one day at a time.

Two things I love: Ireland and DK travel books, so the two together are delightful! I love how DK books are so colorful; one doesn't need to buy postcards or other souvenirs: the travel book is enough for remembering every detail of a memorable trip. And when planning the trip, one knows exactly what to expect from the pictures, information, and organization that DK does so well in all the travel books in its collection. They are the only travel books I buy, and I have traveled all over the world.

Nicely organized - index tagged effectively, sections/areas captioned clearly & concisely, yet found that there was no country code before the area code, thus, telephone numbers were invalid. Few attractions had specific addresses and hours of operation need seasonal hours identification. Unless I missed it, we had no clue that double lanes were 16ft wide, wide enough for small or compact cars only. Tour buses are 8ft wide and can be a challenge in on coming 2 lane traffic.The book could include and inform reader of all road rules for pedestrians, cyclists, automobiles, and shuttle, taxi & bus lanes. Oh yes, as well as inform if the confusing lane diagrams and road signs. People in this country are very nice, although they are assertive and aggressive residents and frustrated tourists.

This is a good reference for listing the most interesting attractions region by region, and the section about airport and ground transportation in Dublin is useful. However, the writing is dry and lacks any point of view or sense of enthusiasm. I found that Rick Steves' book gave me a better understanding of why I might or might not enjoy certain attractions, including some interesting anecdotes and fun facts that enhanced my experience. Also, unlike the Steves book, there are not many itineraries for touring (but the downside of the Steves approach is that if you don't follow his route, the place descriptions are harder to find). This book's strengths are that it's well organized so you can easily find the towns and regions regardless of which route you may be taking, there are nice color photos and illustrations, and the descriptions are concise and factually correct. Also, the maps inside the covers are good.

About the Author

John Osborne was born in London in 1929. Before becoming a playwright he worked as a journalist, assistant stage manager and repertory theatre actor. Seeing an advertisement for new plays in The Stage in 1956, Osborne submitted Look Back in Anger. Not only was the play produced, but it was to become considered as the turning point in post-war British theatre. Osborne's protagonist, Jimmy Porter, captured the rebelliousness of an entire post-war generation of 'angry young men'. His other plays include The Entertainer (1957), Luther (1961), Inadmissible Evidence (1964), and A Patriot for Me (1966). He also wrote two volumes of autobiography, A Better Class of Person (1981) and Almost a Gentleman (1991) published together as Looking Back: Never Explain, Never Apologise. His last play, Deja Vu (1991), returns to the characters of Look Back in Anger, over thirty years later. Both Look Back in Anger and The Entertainer were adapted for film, and in 1963 Osborne won an Academy Award for his screenplay for Tom Jones. John Osborne died on 24 December 1994.

I find a lot of the other British novels and stories from the "Angry Young Men" movement not very engaging, but this play has incredible energy. I enjoyed it very much. I'm not usually drawn into plays but was totally into *Look Back in Anger* from the first scene. This might be partly because of the wonderful prose-y stage directions that do a lot with the characters, but I think it's more about the dialogue. Osborne manages to make most of these characters both extensively, ironically self-reflective and mostly not tedious, which I find really impressive. Every scene brims with (surprise) anger, depression, and the crisis of masculinity in Post-War Britain.

I have read Look Back in Anger at least 5 times in my life and each time I enjoy it as much as I did the first time. The plays depiction of youth in a pre-war era is right on point and is as true today and when John Osborne first penned this work.

I purchased this book for a class. Look Back in Anger is a good play. The seller mailed an old hardback from a library. I like the latter, because it is easy to carry around in medium size purse. Also, the shipping time was reasonable.

Needed it for school.

The seller advertised this book's condition as "NEW," but when I received the book, it was marked and highlighted. The inside was filled with notes and different color highlight marks. I don't like reading books that have all kinds of markings already inside. For this reason I am dissapointed in this seller for advertising the book as being in "NEW" condition when in reality it was very much used and abused.

This may have been shocking to theatergoers in the 1950s, but in the late 2010s, the main characters just comes across as an angry young white guy who makes everyone's life more difficult. Jimmy Porter is the angry young man (the blurb on the back says he is the "original angry young man" -- quite a boast and certainly wrong). He criticizes everything and everyone that crosses his path - pedestrians, his best friend and roommate, his wife, his wife's family, the government, the public, people that go to the movies on Sunday, priests...it goes on and on. He is immensely tiresome. There are a few good lines in here, but it doens't make up for how exhausting it all is. And the plot is hard to believe as well -- if it is believeable, than humanity is a sad lot.

Sometimes it's useful to be reminded that our world is a place that more often than not doesn't make much sense. It's all too frequently a setting for the display of intimidating and triumphal cruelty that takes verbal forms we may not have anticipated but that we immediately recognize when we hear them. Some among us seem to be virtuosos when it comes to cynically devising and inflicting pain, most often on those we care for and who happen to be close by.Jimmy, the demonstrably vicious protagonist of John Osborne's play Look Back in Anger is just such an unrestrained linguistic thug. He inflicts the harshest indictments, the most injurious epithets, and the most painfully timed indifference on everyone he knows, and he does so for reasons that are never clear. In fact, he needs no immediate reason, wants no immediate reason, and offers no immediate reason.Jimmy is the sort of unsolicited adversary who is at his best, his most inspired, his most whole, and his most creative when he's angriest. I've known people like Jimmy. Their anger may be signaled by a vaguely demonic smirk, nothing too obvious, but definitely there and bespeaking enjoyment. Though their rage is without discernible prompting or purpose, it fills them with self-righteousness that provides a kind of unspoken rationale. The fact that it's actually irrational doesn't in the least diminish their certitude. The intensity of their anger is too keen and all-consuming not to be justified, and not to justify inflicting derision, shame, humiliation, and undeserved suffering on others.Though they have no immediate concrete excuses, the brutes I've known have long since put forth a false, flimsy, and far-fetched but insidiously plausible patch work of contextual explanations for any and all abusive excesses. Jimmy is sure that he's as smart and well educated as anyone, and he may be, but he attended a lesser university in the British academic status hierarchy, and he lives and makes a living as a member of the working class. He sees himself as a victim of the pernicious and pervasive class structure that organizes once proudly imperial Great Britain, and he takes pains to present himself as a rude, boisterous, ill-mannered lout, making the case that his oppressors and their hierarchical system are right. Ironically, however, he makes the case so well that its rectitude is suspect. Surely he's putting us on with his overblown caricature of a demonically worthless member of the lumpen proletariat.In spite of his thoroughly objectionable behavior and mean-spirited character, however, Jimmy enjoys the undying love of his attractive, well-bred, middle class wife Alison. She married Jimmy over her parents' intensely bitter objections, and as his wife we see her standing at the ironing board, making tea, doing laundry, and absorbing punishment but not much else. What is there in this chronically contentious and demeaning relationship for her? We are given little or nothing to use in making even the most weakly informed guess. If I hadn't seen relationships such as this for myself, my parents were a case in point, I'd conclude that the marriage of Jimmy and Allison was too destructive and devoid of everyday comforts to be anything more than an unconvincing literary contrivance.Jimmy and Alison live with Cliff, a man about Jimmy's age, in his middle twenties, and one of Jimmy's few friends. Though Cliff is relaxed and easy going, Jimmy snipes and jabs at him relentlessly. Cliff does what he must to retain his sanity, but one imagines that he stays with the couple out concern for Alison, and in spite of Jimmy's barbs and taunts. Oddly, Cliff and Allison are openly demonstrative in their affection for each other, hugging and occasionally kissing. Jimmy, contrary to expectations of one as prickly and easily offended as he has shown himself to be, makes nothing of it. Perhaps he thinks it can be based on nothing but friendship. After all, women don't leave men like Jimmy. He's no doubt convinced that along with his boorishness comes an irresistible animal magnetism peculiar to brutishly offensive males. Or something like that.About half way through, a fourth character enters the play. Rather than going into details and telling the whole story, suffice it so say that Jimmy treats her even worse than he treats his wife. Again, we see the inexplicably senseless and often cruel and painful nature of the lives we sometimes live.If there is an alternative or complementary theme in this, say class antagonism and its costs to the socially disadvantaged, it's not sufficiently well developed to be more than ancillary. But what we see and hear is thematically strong enough to make the play worthwhile. It's all too easy to lose sight of the fact that our damaging irrationality often assures that the most objectionable among us get the most love, devotion, and other micro-social payoffs. We do what we do, too often meaning victory for sharks and other predators in our vicinity.

This book is the first book I have read just on Subways. It gives a good summary of these systems around the world. There is a lot of interesting stations and systems around the world. From Paris to Uzbekistan, from St. Petersburg to Tokyo, and in dozens of other cities -- these systems have fascinated me.This book describes 100 of the most fascinating systems in the world, with beautiful pictures, little known facts, excellent editing -- and clear and informative writing. I was entranced for three hours -- literally could not put it down. Here are a few that I have visited -- and a couple I want to see eventually on the ground -- under the ground? -- but loved reading about.The Stockholm metro, considered to be "the longest museum in the world" -- my late wife and I spent two hours going from station to station enjoying the show.New York City's Art Deco City Hall Station, now closed to the public -- but you can see it on very special occasions and every day for fleeting moments -- best on a sunny day so the skylights help you see the details: Here’s how to see it:-- Take the 6 train heading downtown.-- When the train makes its final stop at the “Brooklyn Bridge/City Hall” station, passengers are told to exit the train.-- Stay on the train and duck down so as not to be easily spotted. When the train departs the station it will pass through the abandoned City Hall Station. That’s when you can get a view of the station – be discreet.Russia's many underground Cold War palaces that double as fallout shelters -- My favorite was the deepest station in Saint Petersburg -- it was amazing to ride back up on the long escalator and see the incredible variety of different people's faces -- so many different nationalities on a very long parade.The blue-lit passenger halls of Dubai's metro, a cool sea in the desert -- on my to do list -- many wonders in Dubai, and this is apparently one of the top three attractions.Paris' Concorde station tiled with one gigantic word search puzzle that spells out the Declaration of the Rights of Man from the French Revolution. And there are many other routes equally attractive -- love those rubber wheels.The candy-colored kaleidoscopic University station in Naples, the vision of American designer Karim Rashid -- blew me away!Olaias station in Lisbon, lit almost exclusively by chandeliers -- Lisbon is such a pretty and small city, and this is a true jewel in a very beautiful place.Kyoto's immense 15-story multi-use rail station -- an ancient city; a modern marvel.Istanbul's underwater Marmaray tunnel, the deepest in the world.
