This book is impossible to use. Most of the book seems to be a scan that hasn't been run through OCR. Therefore, it is impossible to use search to look up specific words. I would suggest that for someone who needs a digital reference where you can actually find a word without having to swipe through pages like a Tinder fiend, there are plenty of mobile device apps that are set up for easy search.

I would like to return this digital download. I bought this book for the verb conjugations, but the print on the conjugations is illegible and the font does not get bigger with any adjustment. It was a total waste of money. I should have purchased the paperback. Why didn't Amazon warn us. What a waste of money.

I use this book in my Italian class. The book 501 Italian verbs conjugates in the seven simple tenses and the seven compound tenses. The book explains the different terms and shows example sentences.A LITTLE MORE:I had just started learning the Italian language almost 2 months ago. For me it is very hard to learn in college, because I have never studies another language and you move very fast through learning the grammar rules and the whole language itself. 2 years of italian language is equivalent to 4 years of high school italian language. So it is a lot to take in, but I have a great Italian teacher, who has luckily focused these last 2 months on the grammar rules and we are now starting to do complex sentences. This book is very handy to have and I would suggest a must for ALL italian students. It shows you 501 verbs, along with how to conjugate them in present tense, past tense, etc. As well as giving you examples of them in sentences. Each different version of the 14 total conjugations are explained in the front of the book, so that you know which one to use. The reason I gave it 4 stars and not 5 is because in some of the sentences the don't use the verb as it is conjugated, but instead as the regular version of that verb instead.

In spite of the dire warnings by most reviewers, I decided to order the Kindkle version of this great book because, in my experience, even very small print is quite readable on the Kindle Fire, as a result of the intense contrast between the very dark, very well-formed letters and the luminous white background. My guess proved correct, as I can read the one-page list of the conjugated forms without difficulty, on the Fire. On the other hand, on my Kindle Touch, the lists are virtually illegible with the naked eye. However, even on the Kindle Touch, the text comes out very bold and very well-formed in the electronic ink, so that, if you use a magnifying glass, you can read the lists without any difficulty.I gave this ebook 5 stars because of its quality: the one-page lists are great for making comparisons and for overall review. Moreover, the authors' comments and explanations, all of them in large print in the Kindle version [for a welcome change], are invaluable. As an added bonus, to my knowledge, this is the only book on Italian verbs that provides the whole conjugation of "andarsene," which, as you may know, is an extremely common and useful verb in everyday Italian but is very tricky for students, who generally have great difficulty using and placing the reflexive forms and the adverbial particle [ne] correctly, especially in the negative and in the imperative.Finally, I want to comment on the statement by one of the reviewers, in the sense that you can't access the conjugations on this Kindle version unless you turn over the pages one by one. This is an incorrect and misleading statement. This Kindle version has a Table of Contents (in blue on the Fire) from where you can directly access any verb you choose.To sum up, if you have a Kindle Fire, don't pass up this great book in its Kindle version. Moreover, if you don't mind carrying a magnifying glass with you, you'll be able to use this Kindle version, as a reference, also on the Kindle Touch.

This book of conjugations is one in a series which are fundamental to the correct learning and understanding of the subtleties of a language, which is Italian in this case. This is the second copy of this book I have bought because it is an indispensable book in my learning of the Italian language. I would highly recommend this manual to anyone who is seriously thinking of learning Italian.

This I purchased due to the successful results of using the Barron's 501 Spanish Verbs. When I was picking out books to buy in order to study Italian, I immediately chose the Barron's 501 Italian Verbs. Since it is difficult for me to retain the basics of a new language this becomes a great verb reference book. And don't forget to read the opening 15 pages which are a great summary of verbs.

Dialogue for any language comes with daily use and learning. A knowledge of verb forms is a necessary tool in the learning process. I have not had any extensive experience in Italy compared to my others countries where I worked for many years. Despite that, I always carry a verb book with me.

You get a preposition wrong, people will still understand you, but if you get the action wrong... uhm the whole meaning is distorted!!!It is a great guide that has English to Italian and Italian to English verbs, along with ALL its conjugations in ALL tenses for each verb in 1 page!!! I like the book because it does give a bit of input on helping you understand Bullying, but it's a bit out dated on some of the exercises it offers. Unfortunately Bullying is more intense and kids these days probably won't even want to partake in the activities.

I work with teens and the ones dealing with bullying say this is helpful.Kids just need to feel like they have options for dealing with bullies and this gives it to them.

( Its easy to unstand for young teens.). (Mom or dad.. Can help ..) It's a workbook .. (Wow great book:) you should buy this book if your teens are haveing a hard time in school, at home, it's the book for you!!! Its the book i have been waiting for !!! Its so easy.. It really help my teen daughter! We do this book together ... And with her mental health works, bullying is so bad and my daughter. Need help with it (.. God bless finding this book.) . I have been reading Japanese poetry in translation. I have particularly valued this book. It examines various haiku of Basho through a Zen perspective. Robert Aitken gives first his own translation then the literal translation of the haiku alongside the Romanized Japanese version. He not only discusses the haiku showing its Zen features, he also discusses the prosody of the piece, showing how the position of the words affects the meaning. The book is easy to read but also informative.

Practically perfect condition. A good binding providing good study material.

As someone who greatly appreciates haiku, I was greatly disappointed by this book. I wanted a book with nothing but haiku. This book is mostly writing ABOUT haiku. It has precsious little haiku verses. And for the ones that were in the book, there were pages and pages of comment on it. If one wants to read a book about what people think of haiku and how they understand it, this book may be for you. But, if you are interested in having a book with the vast majority of what is actually in the book being haiku, this will be a disappointment to you. A few minutes after it was downloaded to my Kindle, I deleted it--a waste of $9.69.

This is an extraordinary book on two counts: it is a penetrating commentary on Zen as lived by the poet Basho', and it is an exemplary translation of Basho''s poetry.What makes A Zen Wave stand out? Translators of haiku, of which there have been many, have employed a variety of strategies in attempting to render the compact haiku form into English. In translating Basho', Aitken has adopted the only sensible strategy: he dispenses with the 5-7-5 syllable structure, for the simple reason that it doesn't work in English, and he resists any temptation to impose western poetic conventions. Instead, he focuses on capturing the Zen spirit of Basho'. It is here, in conveying the spirit of Basho''s haiku, that Aitken proves himself so adept.For each poem, Aitken first gives his English translation, followed by a romanized version (ro'maji), and a literal, word-for-word transliteration of the Japanese. This allows the reader to appreciate both what the original poem looked like, and the liberties taken by the translator in `creating' an English version. This format discloses the translation process with uncommon honesty. It both allows and compels Aitken to explain and justify his translations. Here is an example: The Old Pond(First Aitken's translation) The old pond; A frog jumps in-- The sound of water.(Then the ro'maji) Furu ike ya kawazu tobikomu mizu no oto(Then the literal transliteration) Old pond! frog jumps in water of soundThen, in a section called "The Form," Aitken provides a detailed explanation of the pertinent grammatical features, such as the cutting word, "ya," and how the poem's structure creates its poetic effects. This section is then followed by the author's commentary: historical, poetical, and Zen-influenced. In his commentary, he provides critical evaluations of other translations, assessing their fidelity to the original, and provides a rationale for his own version. I personally found this commentary very helpful in appreciating Bash'o's haiku.If you are interested in Bash'o, in haiku in general, in poetry, or in Zen, I think you'll find A Zen Wave an exceptional book.

Full disclosure: I came to this book with a strong interest in the haiku of Basho (as well as Issa, Buson, Chiyo-ni, et.al.) but very little knowledge of the Japanese language. Most of the books I've been able to find so far provide various translations but little commentary or translator's notes. A Zen Wave, however, provides much to think on--a well-considered English translation; the original in romanji; and a literal word-for-word translation. Comments on individual poems go into the particular challenges of rendering Japanese into understandable English (random example: "Most translators render naki as "weep," but this is incorrect. Its homonym means "weep," and so this carries through as an overtone, but the ideograph Basho used refers to the cry of any animal, with reference derived from context.")The other aspect of the book is, of course, Zen. Aitken uncovers deeper meaning in Basho's haiku, informed by both Basho's understanding of Zen (he was "familiar with the ways of Zen monks to some degree") and Aitken's own (as a Zen roshi.) These essays take the reader to many delightful places, bringing all sorts of things along the way--poems by T.S. Eliot and Joyce Carol Oates; monk stories; Zen koans; slightly cranky rants (oh, the poor acolyte of the 60s-70s who wanted master Aitken to LOVE his students . . . ); and out-and-out didacticism. "Basho's purpose was not merely self-expression," Aitken tells us. "With his great compassionate heart, he was saying, 'Go thou and do likewise.'"Again, I am no expert on haiku or Zen; merely a student. As such, I found this work both delightful and useful. I would not agree with a previous reviewer who found the book lacking in "depth" but I wouldn't mind if Aitken had tackled more poems. For that matter, I wouldn't mind if other contemporary translators of Japanese poetry would give us more material like this.

This book has a lot of good information in it, I have learned about the different ways cultures prepare foods and what influenced the way they eat.I wish there were more pictures and recipes in the book, but there is a lot of good reading.I would recommend this to any culinary or nutrition student and those interested in learning about different cultures.

My daughter needed this book for her college course. I was surprised that this book costs upwards of $90.00. There was no way I going to pay that. I was happy to find this book on the cheap. For a used book, it was in good condition when we received it.

While comprehensive, this is too broad, too general and very stereotypical. Each 'cultural' group represented in the United States has the same diet as their fellows, it seems. It can also be very bland: since coming to the U.S., X group's consumption of 'junk' food, milk, and such, has increased.There are also some serious mistakes. Scotch is the alcoholic drink while Scottish refers to the people. Yet, the authors insist on calling a particular people the "Scotch Irish" (a group not recognized in Europe).Should you want very general information, without consulting specialist sources, this might be adequate for your purposes, but if it is to be used in, say, a course introducing topics of food and culture, this is not the book to use.

I bought this book as I am studying to become a Nutrition Assistant, one of the possible job requirements is to educate people of various ethnicities re: their food and possible changes. Some of the sections on the history of the country and people were fairly dense to read. Some of the focus on food was somewhat repetitive, although I did find a few surprises. This book will probably be more useful for me if I do start counseling people.
