This is a lovely book for baby. It's bigger in size than most of the other baby board books I own but it's not too big so that my 7 month old can still hold it on her own and chew on the corners. The prose is rhythmic and it introduces babies at a young age to numbers and counting. Babies love being read the same book over and over and there are enough pages in this book that you as the adult reading it won't get bored. It introduces you to the baby on the first page, then on each addtional page, it counts down from 10 to one, then ends on the last page. So there are at least 12 pages of story line to flip through. The illustrations are beautiful and my baby loves looking at all the colorful pictures. Well done. I hightly recommend this book and the other books by the same author "Counting Kisses" and "Daddy Hugs".
I had hoped we would love this book. "Where is Baby's Bellybutton" lift the flap boardbook from this author is a huge hit with my baby.Unfortunately my husband and I really dislike this book and the daddy version too. Our baby doesn't seem to care for it. It mixes numbers with daily activities like "5 mommy will fix it don't cry hugs" but that doesn't make much sense (why add counting to a book about hugs.) Some of these hugs don't make sense- "2 choo chop open wide yummy hugs"? "8 Who made this mess laughing hugs"? There are pages in the beginning and end that don't have pictures or words- that's fine in a regular picture book but you don't need to have that in a boardbook. The part my husband and I dislike the most is #10 in this book and the daddy book. Repeating "I love you" ten times on a page is just bad writing and no baby has the attention span for reading that. It's well made and colorful but we wouldn't recommend buying this.
So, I didnt care for this book much & would give it 3 stars but my Daughter loves it & asks for it at bedtime so Im giving it 4 stars. Each page is a number, up to ten, and each hug is called something ("who made this mess hug", " Ill always catch you" sliding hugs). It seems like the book would be for somebody younger like a one year old but in one picture the child has a backpack on. Like I said, my Daughter (28 months) loves it.
We had the Daddy Hugs book so I decided to get the Mommy Hugs book for Christmas. Same high quality. Maybe it’s because we started with Daddy Hugs but I thought Daddy Hugs had better hug examples. Should still get it as the companion copy!
We love reading this book together, but I have to say out of the Karen Katz books "Counting Kisses" is our favorite. I read it to my daughter who is now 2yrs old and we have been reading it for months every night before bed. Every page is a mom, dad, sister, or grandma, mostly mom kissing her little girl. They start from 10 and work their way to 1 last kiss. My daughter picks her foot up for me to kiss when they do it in the book and loves for me to kiss her belly when the grandma does that in the book. Its just a great book, this one is good too. I hug her and squeeze her while I read it to her.
My little boy started learning to count and recognize numbers with this book. We have both the Mommy and Daddy Hugs books and Counting Kisses. He brings them to the appropriate parent to read. Mommy can't read Daddy Hugs, and vice versa. We've really enjoyed them.
I adore this book - so much that we had to get Daddy Hugs, too. My daughter (then 3, now 5) still loves the book - and wants to read it to me now. :)We had so much fun nuzzle-wuzzling our way through the book, reading it every night before bed for years. Now that she learned all the words, she reads it to me!Highly recommend this wonderful and sweet book for bonding with your little one.
My granddaughter fell in love with this book because it was kisses from mama and she loves that so very much so this is part of our nightly reading also thank you
The book is very cute but my review is based on the error in the construction of this book. The first page shows the title along with author name and dedication but the page is also repeated again after 2 or 3 pages and it's upside down. I'm really disappointed. This is obviously a manufacturing mistake and I wish I'd had a regular copy but I'll be keeping the book.
