Excellent book. Basically, a picture book that shows numerous firearms across the ages. The pictures are very well done and the descriptions of the firearms are highly accurate. At the front of the book, there are short summaries (1-2 pages) of specific types, for example, German submachines guns.This book would appeal to all levels of firearm knowledge. If you are a newbie, it will open your eyes. If you are an expert, it is a quick reference to find a specific firearm.Please note, this book shows pictures of firearms. It is not a disassembly manual and there are very few photos of the firearms in use. The pictures show the firearm, period. I don’t have a problem with this but I just want everybody to know.Highly recommended, especially the paperback version, which I got, because it is compact and can be easily carried with you.

This book has little information. If you're trying to learn and understand guns then don't buy this book. This is however an excellent book to educate yourself on the models of guns, their origins, and that's about it. It is a lovely book, but not what I was looking for. It's heavy duty, too, good quality. Will be keeping this for my viewing pleasure and it's historical information.

Opened it up and nice looking book. It has color photos in a with a short paragraph type format which I thought would be a brief history and overall overview of the gun. But as I read on (especially the M-14 part) I noticed that it was all a negative review. Just strange either they were knocking the rifle or the US, or both. Not sure what the deal with that is? I read that 3 of the contributors are British and they mention the FAL in the paragraph and how it didn't stand a chance in the testing against the M-14 because of the bias, that it was a scam, that the US wasted millions on a gun that is nothing more than a little better then the Garand. I mean it sounded like one of these guys are linked to the FAL in some way and are still mad that it was chosen over the FAL in the 50's? Just a strange way to write a brief synopsis especially because it follows no consistent pattern with all the other guns mentioned. I gave it only 3 stars because of this otherwise it would have been higher.

My local gun store had a copy of this that I’d been looking at a lot, so I decided to get my own copy. I was pleasantly surprised to receive a more compact version — same content, just shrunk. The guy at the gun store said he likes my copy better.If you like guns, especially old guns, and you like the history, this is a fun book to flip through. You’re not going to get a ton of detail on each model, but it’s good for some light browsing. Besides, you have the internet if you need more info on something you find in the book.

The book is great as far as I'm concerned. It's a gift for my father in law who loves stuff like this. Amazon shipped it with a few other items I purchased in a box way too big. Everything moved around so the book jacket arrived damaged.

The title says it all. I stumbled upon this book at Borders Books for the ridiculous clearance price of $9.99. That was in 2008 and they got snapped up like hot cakes! I found it on Amazon as a gift for a friend at a higher price, but it's well worth it. There are literally thousands of color-side view pictures and specifications of just about every firearm imaginable; from Colonial Muskets to Mausers to M-4 Carbines and beyond, from every part of the globe. Not justrifles, but handguns and revolvers as well. Of course it does not have everything ever made in the category of "Guns" but it's pretty darn close. I live in Florida, where we have Gun Shows just about every other month. This book has been invaluable to me as a research reference for a particular piece that I've found at a Collector or Modern Weaponry Show. This is a must have book for any of you gun enthusiast/historians out there. Just make sure it looks EXACTLY like the picture of the cover--as that is THE one you want. You will love this book.

This is a Christmas gift for a "gun person" so I didn't do anything to it except look at the cover and scan a few pages but it was much bigger than I envisioned. I am totally satisfied with my purchase and hope the recipient will be also at Christmas time. (I hope he doesn't have one already.)

I bought this cookbook several months ago and have made several of the dessert recipes in it. The cookbook is wonderful and everything tastes delicious. When I lived near an Amish Farmer's market, I would routinely go there when I needed to bring treats or desserts to potlucks or birthday parties. This cookbook allows me to perfectly replicate those farmer's market treats with surprisingly easy recipes. I have also tried some of the poultry recipes and while they are very simple, they are also very tasty. All the recipes use ingredients that are easy to find and the instructions are well written and easy to follow. I have a huge cookbook collection and this is definitely one of my favorites!

Very good Amish cookbook with some cultural background included. This author went on to write many more successful cookbooks, but this was one of her first and that is why I wanted to own it. I was not disappointed when I received it because it is a very good book.

Great cookbook but I would have loved to see pictures. I am fascinated with the culture and it's easy to learn about people through food so I'm excited to try the recipes. Pictures just would have been amazing.

I liked this cookbook and I have hundreds of cookbooks in my collection. It is good reading and the recipes are good basic ones.

Most interesting part were the wedding, funeral and dinner after church menu’s.Overpriced for what it contains

Had previously gotten it from the library and wanted a copy for myself to keep as there are many recipes in it I wanted to try.

I've owned this cookbook since 1990 & I love the Amish recipes & stories behind some of the recipes. My family just loves the taste of the foods I make. I first made the Corn Fritters receipe when my boys were young & now I'm making them for my grandchildren. I've had numerous people ask for the recipes for my Baked Oyster Pie, Chicken Pot Pie, or Sugar Cookies & I tell them I got it from this cookbook. I've given this cookbook as gifts also. If you like Pennsylvania Dutch/Amish cooking, you will LOVE this cookbook! Recipes include Shoofly Pie, Hog Maw(Pig's Stomach), & Whoopie Pies. YUM! You will not be sorry!

Great story, reading had me on the edge of my seat, had to finish the next day!

I am a 72 yo white male who was born and raised in the deep South. I left that environment as a teenager, which probably made the difference in my attitude toward the significance of race. Butler made me feel like I was that 26-year-old black woman. Her skillful writing transported me to a place and time that I am certain truly existed in the manner she constructed. I found myself doing some soul-searching after reading the novel kindred. I wish I had been exposed to her while she was still alive, But I will probably wind up reading all of her books now.

I love sci-fi, so when I first heard about Octavia Butler, I jumped on Amazon and bought the first book I saw.In Kindred, Dana, a modern young African American writer who recently married an older white man, gets mysteriously transported back in time to a pre-Civil War plantation owned by the family of her oldest known relative, Rufus. Dana is called back to save Rufus’s life over and over again, presumably preserving her own life in the process. What happens to her in the past stays with her in a very real way.This novel is incredible. I couldn’t put it down. It was written in 1979, but it could have been written last year. Elements of Butler’s own life and frustrations with race issues during her life shine through in parts.This novel deals with love, familial connection, loss, time travel, slavery, and the complex emotions that arise when these things interconnect. To quote Dana:"Strangely, they seemed to like him, hold him in contempt, and fear him all at the same time. This confused me because I felt just about the same mixture of emotions for him myself. I had thought my feelings were complicated because he and I had such a strange relationship. But then, slavery of any kind fostered strange relationships. Only the overseer drew simple, unconflicting emotions of hatred and fear when he appeared briefly. But then, it was part of the overseer’s job to be hated and feared while the master kept his hands clean."This is a great book. It makes the deep personal toll slavery takes on its victims very real. I’m seeking out more of Octavia Butler’s books in the near future.

This book kept me enthralled from the beginning to the end. The thought of Dana being transported from time to time from her present day home in the 1970's back to a slave plantation that was owned by one of her ancestors. It provides a glimpse into the lives of slavery from Dana's perspective and her comping to grips with the fact that she could be stuck in that time indefinitely. Each time Dana is transported back in time her stay becomes longer and she becomes entangled in the plantation and with the people and does her best to survive and make compromises to ensure her future existence.I do not want to give up too much of the story. The author did an excellent job of portraying the characters and developing the story. I would have liked to know why Dana had such a strong connection with Rufus, but this did not take much away from the story.I listened to the audio version as well as read the book.

First, I am not a big fan of science fiction. For a reading challenge, I was tasked with reading a work of science fiction by an author of color or with a main character of color. Two birds, one book with Octavia Butler’s Kindred. Plus, it gives me a reason to read a prolific writer who I have been ignoring. Extra bonus, I would consider this Sci Fi light. There are no aliens, no robots, and no weird machines. Only time travel with no devices required.The novel is set in 1976 in California. African American Dana is newly married to white guy Will. They are both writers, he more successful. They move into a new home. Dana feels dizzy and poof—there she is in antebellum Maryland saving a white boy named Rufus from drowning. Task accomplished and she returns home, finding that she was gone for only a few seconds in 1979 but for a longer spell in the 1800’s. Rufus is the young son of a plantation and slave owner and is also a distant relation to Dana. Whenever he is in danger (which is often) she is somehow summoned to save him. Her visits to the south last for longer periods of time and sometimes her husband Will accompanies her. Dana believes she must continue to save Rufus otherwise he will not be alive to father a child with a slave; that child being one of Dana’s ancestors. No Rufus, no Dana. Dana obviously does not fit in and passes herself off as a free black from the north, though Will is her “master” and lover. On the plantation she is often treated as a slave because there is nothing more threatening to slave owners than an educated black woman. She herself is often in danger and suffers atrocities along with the other slaves.This was a quick read and an interesting story, but I did not love it. I’m not a fan of time travel in novels, but that was a very minor part of the story. It was fairly easily accepted by all involved, including those on the plantation. Most of the book takes place on the plantation and these are the most compelling sections. That said, I don’t think that those scenes were much different than any other book set in that period. Toni Morrison and Kathleen Grissom (The Kitchen House and Glory Over Everything) are much better writers. Also, some of the interesting dynamics were not explored in enough depth for me. Dana’s love/hate relationship with Rufus, her relationship with her white husband both in current and past times, and her fear that her husband would be altered by his exposure to conventions in the early 1800’s. In fairness, this book was written in 1979 and the author may have gone as far as one could go with those issues. This book is 3.5 stars for me. I am unlikely to read another of Ms. Butler’s books.

This book may be most useful to readers new to mindfulness. The author does a good job of pulling practical suggestions together from the literature. The use of intentional rituals was a concept new to me. I appreciated that he organized the book by taking the reader through a typical day using mindfulness techniques.

I just started using this book, although I have practiced Mindfulness before. I like the suggestions for "intentions" that are in the latter part of the book. I was able to choose many quickly, and know that I can focus on one for now. It made it a quick read so I can get started right away.

Life will pass us by, so we might as well enjoy the journey. I like the word "mindfulness" as it is much less intimidating than meditation. Plus, it is much easier to do. This is easy to read, step-by-step, and even easier to do. A great, fun read.Tom "Big Al" Schreiter

I loved the simple guidelines and 71 suggestions for being more mindful. One of my favorites is #34 Practice Outcome-Directed Thinking. As a person who loves her "to do" list--especially checking things off!--the idea of stopping to truly savor and reflect upon why I am doing those tasks was intriguing... and so far... enlightening. I have found that many of the tasks bring me a certain level of joy that I had not identified before. Who would think hand washing dishes was a joyful task? When I let myself enjoy the warmth of the water flowing over my hands, and the slippery surfaces of clean dishes, and noticed the light reflecting off sparkling, clean glassware... well, I have no words. Just a sense of joy. Learn how to experience your everyday actions in a new way. About the Author

Professor David L. Stader currently serves as Department Chair of Educational Leadership and Counseling at Southeast Missouri State University, Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Before coming into higher education, David spent nineteen years as a high school principal in Missouri. His primary research interest considers how changes in law and society influence the decision-making of campus leaders. He is the author of two recent textbooks entitled Law and Ethics in Educational Leadership published by Allyn & Bacon in 2007 and A Leaders Guide for Safe Schools, published by Christopher-Gordon Publishers in 2011. In addition, David has published numerous articles specifically related to his primary research interest. Professor Stader holds an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from St. Louis University, St. Louis, Mo.

Perfect for my college course. Just not a huge personal interest. Wouldn't read for pleasure.

Despite the fact that this is a college text, I've seen several typos in only the first few chapters. I don't know if these errors are exclusive to the Kindle edition or if they are in the physical copy of the book as well. I just assumed that editors would be more diligent in grammar and spelling. Otherwise very good resource and excellent case studies for each chapter.

The quality of this text is less than newsprint. Forget being able to annotate - the paper is so thin it rips with turning the pages. The printed text is bleeding through each page - front to back - impossible to read. You can't hold the text in your hand due to the poor quality of materials - the books simply flops down around your hands. Not recommended.

I paid 100 dollar for a fake book I’m very disappointed l.

This is a must read... I was assigned to read for grad school, and it was definitely worth the money!

Richard A. Chefetz, MD, is a psychiatrist in private practice in Washington, D.C. He was President of the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation (2002-3), and is a Distinguished Visiting Lecturer at the William Alanson White Institute of Psychiatry, Psychoanalysis, and Psychology. He is a faculty member at the Washington School of Psychiatry, the Institute of Contemporary Psychotherapy & Psychoanalysis, and theWashington Center for Psychoanalysis.

Once in a great while there's a book, an author, who fully captures my mind and heart and shares a wealth of knowledge, wisdom, compassion and provides an active learning experience that I believe will last a lifetime. Dr. Rich Cheftez is the author of such a book. I, as well as so many others - professionals and non professionals - are the rich beneficiaries of his expertise, humanity, courageous honesty, and highly developed synergistic capacity for vast stores of information, experience and knowledge. I have read it through once, am on my second reading, and will savor and continue to mine the treasures within it for a long time to come. His work contributes enormously to a most difficult field of working with survivors of abuse and the conditions of trauma and dissociation. I believe countless individuals are already benefitting, directly and indirectly through those of us who are studying this wondrous work.

Rich Chefetz has written a clinically eye-opening, theoretically sophisticated, and immensely relational book about the “Intensive Psychotherapy for Persistent Dissociative Processes”. Note that the terms “dissociative disorders” or “dissociative patients” are not featured in the title. In fact, what comes across most consistently throughout this book, is Rich Chefetz’s unpretentious way of being a Mensch, a caring, fully present person, offering his exquisitely honed skills of mindfully connecting to fellow human beings who have been taught by life that feeling real and really relating are threats to their survival.Dr. Chefetz is not afraid to share his struggles about how to create a sense of safety in a person whose mind had to shatter in order to keep living. With a stance of unwavering compassion, Dr. Chefetz quietly and astutely makes sense of the many puzzling, difficult, hurtful and dangerous behaviors his traumatized patients feel compelled to demonstrate. He takes all sensationalism, dramatic flair, “the dissociative patient as a curious specimen”, any “us (therapists)” vs. “them (patients)” out of the therapeutic equation. He does not offer a manual that will guarantee the patient’s measurable improvement by the final page. I am a social worker who has the privilege of working with wonderfully complex clients (aren't we all?) who mostly carry a diagnosis of PTSD and/or borderline personality disorder. No matter the diagnosis, all carry a deep, traumatic life trajectory that include abuse, abandonment, neglect, narcisstic wounding, dysfunctional relationships, and deeply felt pain and terror, sometimes/often predating verbal ability. Even with excellent supervision, however, various cases and presentations stumped me. For example, people who had seen many previous therapists but had never actually "gotten better". People who seems basically present yet were aware of parts of them that terrified them. People who were aware of sensations or emotions but could not place how this emotion arrived in the body or its function. People who were abused and hated their abuser yet held inside them introjects of the abuser that held enormous power over them; parts they hated, but could not get rid of. And finally, people who seems symptomatic of horrific abuse, yet reported that they had suffered no wrongdoing at anyone's hands.If your caseload has anyone with these types of presentations, or any trauma based diagnoses, this book should have been placed in your hands a long time ago. And hopefully, you could have been given a paid week off from work so that you could sit at home and read it. Yes, it's that good.Dr. Chefetz does a masterful job of helping you understand the way a mind's feelings, with repeated, sustained abuse, can fracture into frozen-like pieces that remain suspended in the patient's life, presenting itself in myriad ways, without being explicitly 'seen' by the client. Replete with examples taken from his own practice, Dr. Chefetz leads the reader through the the neurological beginnings of dissociation, its manifestations, and ultimately, concepts of re-integration so the client begins to feel whole. The tone is both fascinating and gentle. So gentle, in fact, that you may be lulled into thinking its a book about interventions, where really it's a treatise on how to view humanity. This is a seminal book, and I only wish I could have read it sooner in my career. I don't think you will ever look at the behaviors of a client the same way again.

For anyone working in the field of psychotherapy - this is a must read! For folks working with trauma in any capacity - it should be on the required reading list. Richard Chefetz, MD has created a masterpiece of literature in this scientifically solid book. His writing style is brilliant, inviting, humorous, calming, and deeply personal. The manner in which he presents both research and clinical case material is truly a rare gift. It is as if he is an interpreter for the reader by making something so complex as dissociative processes much easier to embrace and understand. The way he shares the struggles of his patients and the stories of his relationship with them is beautifully honoring. An incredible tribute to our field and to the process of healing. It has been my summer reading book and by far the best book I have read of this type in a long while. I will be reading it again and again.
